The world's rarest great ape is facing extinction because the construction of a massive hydro-electric dam is slicing through the middle of the forest home of the Tapanuli Orangutan. The company behind this is owned by the Chinese government and operates energy projects in Scotland.
We still have a chance to stop the dam and save the Tapanuli orangutan, but with less than 800 left, we need to act now.
We call on Red Rock Power/SDIC to halt construction of the Batang Toru Dam and commit to a public, independent impact assessment of the project as well as a long-term conservation management plan for the Tapanuli orangutan and the Batang Toru ecosystem.
